There was a little girl once upon a time. The little girl was a daydreamer most of her days were spent in magical worlds full of castle’s, enchanted forests and speaking to the frog shaped prince in the pond. She went on adventures and collected treasure. Hiding them in the wardrobe shaped cave in her bedroom. The days were bright and full of magic but at night when the sky went black there was a familiar feeling creeping around. Fear would crawl out from under the bed. Fear often came and sat on the pillow mocking her. As the little girls eyelids became heavy fear pulled at them. “Open your eyes” it whispered in her ear “look over there” it mocked as it pointed at the shadows, drawing her attention to what looked like eyes in the; darkness watching her. “What’s that noise?” fear would whisper again.
Each night fear came and sat on the pillow it would slowly crawl up from the darkness and make itself comfortable next to her ear, sometime the little girl got so frightened that blood would rush from her nose onto the pillow. When this happened she ran to her mum and her dad and fear ran away to hide under the bed
When the little girl woke the next day, as if by magic fear was gone, it wasn’t under the bed or in the wardrobe. She would go back into her daydreams. Years passed, and the cycle continued fantastic days of light and unbearable nights of dark.
Over the years light managed to creep in to the dark and the little girl found it was easier to cope with but darkness also managed to escape from the night causing shadows in the day. Although the shadows where frightening the little girl was brave and spent time exploring them.
The shadows were still frightening but the more she explored them the better she was at coping. So that’s what she did. She explored her thoughts and feelings; she explored the world around her and tried to make sense of it all. She used lots of things to do this. She used paper, pens ink and photography. She also used light and dark as tools in her exploration, then when she was a grownup she decided it was time to share her explorations with others and she laid them out for others to explore and the next chapter began.
